Rathmines College Partners with Oxfam to Promote Sustainability | By Sebastian Brindley, Hlengiwe Mbali & Jonathan Martins
In a world increasingly concerned with environmental impact we are taking action by launching a pop-up thrift shop in partnership with Oxfam. This initiative not only provides affordable fashion for students but also contributes to global efforts to fight poverty and promote sustainability.
What is Sustainability?
Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. One of the biggest challenges facing our planet today is the overproduction and wastefulness of the fashion industry. By opting for second-hand clothing instead of purchasing new, we can reduce landfill waste, decrease the demand for fast fashion, and lower carbon footprints.
The Role of Oxfam
Oxfam is a global movement that works to end poverty and provide food and water to underprivileged areas. The money raised through this pop-up thrift shop will go directly to Oxfam. By shopping at the pop-up, students are not only making environmentally responsible choices but also supporting life-changing global efforts.
Great Finds | Great Minds | Why a Pop-Up Thrift Shop?
A pop-up thrift shop encourages the recycling of clothing, promotes ethical shopping habits and provides a platform for discussions about the impact of fashion on the environment.
